Volunteer Firefighter

A volunteer firefighter is a member of the Township of Norwich Fire Service

The Township of Norwich recruits men and women on an annual basis for the position of Volunteer Firefighter. Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Be a resident Township of Norwich
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess the physical dexterity required to perform emergency work as outlined in the position description
  • Be able to acquire the appropriate certificates within one year of employment to the position including a Class D-Z driver license, First Aid/CPR and Defibrillator
  • Be insurable under the municipality’s fleet policy
  • Have a means of transportation to respond to alarms
  • Be proficient in English
  • Have no criminal record (with occupational relevance) for which a pardon has not been granted

Recruitment takes place each autumn; availability of positions may vary by District. Recruitment will be advertised in local media, check the Township of Norwich Events Calendar for exact dates. Applications will only be accepted during the recruitment process.


The Township of Norwich participates in the Joint Training Action Group (JTAG), in partnership with 12 neighbouring fire departments within Elgin, Norfolk and Oxford Counties, providing training to a contingent of more than 900 firefighters.
